British Airways chief Willie Walsh says the airline will not abandon its proposed London City-New York service, despite appalling market conditions.
“I’ve never seen such a combination of factors in my 30 years in this business” he said.
He is buoyed by the fact there appear to be enough leisure travellers willing to pay a premium for business class, and he announced that a new configuration in the Club Europe cabin will finally see an end to the airline selling the dreaded middle seat of three-across from next year. Instead, BA will offer 2x2 configuration.
A new Club World product will be unveiled at the end of 2009 on the carrier's long-haul aircraft, while the debut of a new first class will be seen in 2010 with the arrival of new 777 aircraft.
Walsh was also positive about London Heathrow's T5. “It’s better than I thought it would be,” he said, claiming, “We have the best product at Heathrow that there has ever been.” he said
