Gill Upton
Gill has been so long in the industry she's too embarrassed to say exactly how many years it is. She's edited Business Traveller magazine, the pan-European newsletter Business Travel Analyst for the Financial Times, the business travel coverage in the Evening Standard, Meet Britain for Visit Britain, and so on, ad nauseum! Her career hasn't all been about business travel; it's also spanned local newspapers, the industry bible Caterer & Hotelkeeper, Fashion Weekly and Marketing magazine. Editing TBTM is naturally the highlight of these achievements! David Clare
Dave has now been with BMI for over ten years and has gained immense satisfaction in the development of The Business Travel Magazine as the market leader. When not at work he can usually be found on the golf course or at home with his wife and two young children. For his sins he is also the manager of his son’s football team and is still coming to terms with the disappointment of being overlooked for the role of the new Chelsea manager. Rumours of an impending return to a player/manager role for Fulham Ladies have been wildly exaggerated…. Andy Hoskins
Andy was lured in to journalism by the prospect of life-long travel and champagne breakfasts, but quickly realised all that glitters is not gold. He is Deputy Editor of The Business Travel Magazine, but also writes regularly for BMI Publications’ sister titles Selling Long Haul and Short Breaks & Holidays. Andy has travelled extensively in Asia and South America, where his illustrious career playing for Deportivo Urubamba in Peru's Sacred Valley football league was disappointingly cut short by a dodgy visa. Steve Hartridge
Steve joined BMI in February 2003. Previously he was group editor at Outbound Publishing, overseeing a stable of magazines and newspapers aimed at those emigrating or buying property overseas. After receiving his MA in the USA, he worked on local newspapers in both the UK and the other side of the Atlantic before overseeing the editorial and production for a company that produced pocket-sized destination guides. He has had a lifetime love-hate affair with the game of golf and Brighton and Hove Albion FC. Matt Bonner
Matt has been with BMI for over 6 years having been a designer for over twelve years in a variety of roles. He studied at the University of the Arts of London (Chelsea) and the University of Portsmouth where he also enjoyed the sport of rowing. In his spare time Matt enjoys many sports, playing and watching and also loves to travel, be it long haul and exotic or a weekend in Wales! Matt is supported by a talented and diligent team of designers. Pictured below from left to right: Emma Norton, Dan Franklin and Michelle Penn.
Shannon Millard
Shannon joined BMI in December 2007 becoming the most recent high profile signing for the company with BMI managing to fend off other stiff competition in the race for the signature of this young prodigal. He has previously worked in production at Newsquest South London where he was swiftly tapped up by Clare Hunter from her old team as a replacement for Scott. Since joining BMI has taken over the production of The Business Travel Magazine and Selling Long Haul publications. He is a dedicated rugby player and general sports enthusiast, helping him to fit into our sporty office effortlessly. Kirsty Hicks
Kirsty has worked for BMI since 1993 and has a BA Hons in publishing (2005) from the University of the Arts, London. She has worked on different BMI magazines and websites and in 2007 launched The Business Travel Conference as the annual event in association with The Business Travel Magazine. Whilst building on the success of the first year conference with TBTC’08 she also helps out on the new Worldwide series of magazines BMI has recently launched. Interested in anything sport related she currently enjoys running, ice-skating and surfing in North Devon and annually in the warm waters of Costa Rica. Alan Orbell
Alan launched BMI's flagship title, Selling Long Haul, in 1990 and has been closely involved with all the company's publishing and website developments since then. Before that he worked on a number of other travel publications which included a short stint based in the Big Apple. Leisure pursuits focus on music - especially jazz and the classics - skiing, cycling, walking, reading and growing organic veg! Martin Steady
Martin has spent nearly thirty years in publishing and has been managing director of BMI Publications for 12 years. When not working ... cycling, walking, socialising and holidays take up most of his time. Any other spare time that he finds himself with is spent honing his skills on the local golf course as he endeavours for that first-ever sub 100 round. He is also a cat lover but is sadly 'between cats' at the moment…
