THE FLIGHT: AA57 London Heathrow to Miami International, flying in Business Class
in 2x3x2 configuration (Boeing 777).
THE CHECK-IN: No queue at the Business Class check-in desk. A problem with my ticket was dealt with efficiently, while the member of staff also explained that, although my bag was checked through to my final destination, I would still need to collect it in Miami and leave it with AA staff before boarding my onward flight.
THE LOUNGE: The large Admirals Club at Terminal 3 had ample seating options, work-stations, separate room with reclining chairs, showers, newspapers, magazines, breakfast snacks and hot, cold and alcoholic drinks.
THE BOARDING PROCESS: Priority boarding for premium class passengers.
THE SEAT: My multi-function window seat offered a range of positions – including angled lie-flat – all at the touch of a button. The AVOD entertainment system featured around 40 films and a good audio selection. There were also several inflight magazines, an excellent Temple Spa amenity kit, power point and privacy divider between the two seats.
THE SERVICE: Offered a glass of Champagne or orange juice pre-take-off, before dinner menus and Bose headphones were distributed. A second drinks service followed soon after take-off, while lunch offered a choice of three starters and four mains – passengers can choose their meal time.
THE arrival: Arrived 20 minutes late due to strong headwinds. There's a short 'skytrain' transit to immigration, where queues built up rapidly. Visa waiver and customs forms – handed out early in the flight – were briefly checked by an attendant before moving on to the immigration official.
THE VERDICT: A good Business Class experience with a much-improved cabin, an excellent new seat and tasty cuisine.
THE DETAILS: American Airlines flies daily between Heathrow and Miami, with return Business Class fares from £1773. www.aa.com Andy Hoskins
